CogentHedge.com is pretty much a case of "what you see is what you get". We are an Internet domain owned by Cogent Investment Research LLC, and operated with the assistance of Cogent Alternative Strategies, Inc., a broker/dealer member of the NASD.

CogentHedge.com is run by three financial professionals with several decades of experience in various aspects of the alternative investment community: Robert Doeberl, Glen Beigel and David Slavin. Between us, the qualitative and quantitative aspects of hedge fund analysis are well represented, while the actual nitty-gritty of HTML programming, data base management systems and applications development is sub-contracted to highly skilled specialists in these fields.

CogentHedge.com is a self-funded operation with a low "burn rate". We are committed to this business and expect to be here for the long haul. To make that happen, we intend to stay fast and accurate. Our goal is to provide the most comprehensive data base of alternative strategy investments available to the hedge fund industry and qualified investors. We are working within a modest business model with rational expectations. But we also are confident that we are building the better mousetrap.

  • Prior thereto, Bob was for four years a Managing Director at Furman-Selz responsible for establishing private investment funds.
  • Acted as a conduit of information for private and institutional investors seeking access to established and start-up hedge funds.
  • Formerly for nine years an investment broker with PaineWebber Group and Oppenheimer & Company servicing institutional and individual clients.

    Glen Beigel
  • Established Cogent Alternative Strategies, Inc. with Mr. Doeberl in March 1999 to act as an independent consultant and contract marketer to the hedge fund industry.
  • Former President and founding member in 1990 of Olympia Capital Associates LP, the U.S. arm of a major third-party offshore and hedge fund administrator and senior officer of affiliated entities.
  • Vice President of the Product Development and Marketing Department of Drexel Burnham Lambert, New York, the group charged with the creation and administration of registered mutual funds and privately offered offshore and alternative investment products for distribution to the firm’s clientele.

    David Slavin
  • Extensive experience in structuring and creating disclosure documentation for specialized investment products.
  • Founding member and former Chief Technology Officer of Olympia Capital.
  • Product Manager of the Product Development and Marketing Department of Drexel Burnham Lambert, New York. Developed and brought to market several of the first widely available managed derivatives funds and multi-manager funds dealing in alternative investment strategies.
